Hey, together through Bob...let it be.

Dignity is one of my favorite songs. I listened to the one posted here and then I listened to the one posted on Expecting Rain this morning. I must say the one this morning was far better. I would give my black tooth to hear Dignity live, I'm happy to hear it as he sung it on the last day of March, and I would bet ALL my points in the pool that everyone feels that way. Thanks Bob for singing Dignity, it's a great song. We all love Bob Dylan in this the Never Ending Pool.

charlie -- thanks for the compliment --

do what i do -- fight it by not dignifying it with your attention --

it's positively 4th pool! -- the pretension that killed kerouac!

-- i just was driving my brother to the UVA hospital for the new treatments he's got ahead of himself and he was commenting how american capitalism is driven by separation (i call it insecurity) and i mentioned positively 4th street to him -- this fight has been going on waaayyy before Jefferson and Hamilton argued over the Cental bank -- (and as a wahoo -- i gotta point out it's too bad Hamilton won)

slow train coming -- they've been taught to consume the product rather than grow their own art/spirit -- sad

-- and bob's whole message about -- it's the process, dummy -- is lost like water off the duck's back

Charlie,

I'm in your corner 95%. Of course, people have the right to hold and express any opinion they want to, but why be so mean-spirited about it? Most of the criticism that I believe you are referring to falls into the "Bob is total sh*te" category. Every Bob web site I've ever been a part of, the original Pool, HWY-61, what have you, has eventually been ruined for me by these haters. It's not like they offer any thoughtful analysis to back up their opinions.

For the last decade and a half, I've attended multiple Bob shows and, while some were better than others, I haven't seen one that disappointed me.

Thanks for bringing this subject up and for being willing to take the inevitable abuse that comes from bringing it up. To the people you were aiming at, I say, give us some reasoned criticism or set up your own "I hate Bob" web site (it's not that hard to do) to spew you blind negativism.

mysterious sometimes are the ways of mortal men but when you are talking about an immortal like bob you've kicked the discussion up into a whole new dimension. bob has given us so much through time; he's given us his soul, his heart, his tears, his laughter and sometimes even the will to survive. (i remember a time when the only thing getting me through the day was listening to like a rolling stone every morning and feeding off bob's energy; i hate to think where i might be without bob and the kick in the pants he gave me every day.) so i don't cotton to all this recent bashing of bob.

if he is diminished -- and i ain't saying he is and i never will. he has just moved on past us again -- it's because of what he has given and what he has lost through that most generous of giving. yes we are mere mortals and bob is godlike and we cannot pretend to judge him or know his motivations. we cannot penetrate the dimension he is in -- that is for the future to accomplish. but we can enjoy him and be eternally grateful that he has walked amongst us as a man.

so, i say, just be, bob. just be and let us be with you.

I think if you had said puppy slapping it might have been funnier, as many of us posters are pappies, but if you said puppies, you would probably only have to deal with the PETA NEP posters.

Gilburt: Wait a minute, i'm going to burn a candel.

You can read all the posts of all the threads of this page, and you will not even find one saying "Modern Bob sucks".
Some of us just said that his last performance of Dignity is bad.

Re:Negativity on the NEP, and recent Bob performances 15 Years ago
I admit I haven't read all of the posts in the "dignity thread" but, as far as i read, i haven't seen anything offensive.

My personal point of view is:

- I suppose that here anybody (any registerd user, i mean) has the right to post a comment.

- It is obvious that nobody has the right to be unpolite while answer to someone or write a new post.

- I believe that anybody has the right to have their own tastes, so anybody can like/dislike something.

- this is a pool site, it's about Dylan shows but it doesn't mean you have to love Dylan (i do, but someone may be here just because of the pooling thing).

If i'm wrong about this common pillars let me know, i may be in the wrong place...

Having said that i'm pretty sure that a musician (i'm not one) has a different ability to understand other musicians' work; while simple music lover/listeners (as i consider myself) can't get everything is in a particular performance. I mean: rarely a non-musician would love modern jazz, because it involve that you know music very well to get into it [am i wrong?!].

As a simple listener i believe that rarely i will understand the point of view of a musician, and i don't pretend to.

At the same time i'm also sure that, if i don't like a song, hardly i will just because the players has done something innovative or impressive (from a thecnical point of view).

So, Charlie, if someone has been unpolite to you i'm completely with you (but "...do unto others like you'd have them, do unto you"

In the while if someone believe that that Dignity is not that good it's just their problem, moreover if they aren't professional musician.
Surely they (we) are missing something, but why should you be bothered?

Take it easy and enjoy the music at your higher level!

Paolo ":^D

ps: my english is what it is, if something may "sound" unclear ask me before flame me, thanks

Are we actually discussing whether we're allowed to dislike a performance?
