thanks for the advice, trev. But how in HELL could you toss all 88-09!! EGADS, man, did you lose your mind? Half the NET, and the better half, too! Okay, I'm done ranting. I'm not going to miss the garden or grounds much. I cannot take summer outside heat here at sea level. shows I have on hard drives I mainly have backed up on a disconnected 3TB monster that I plug in only when I do a periodic backup. I've been listening to shows as I do this work, and I must say I'm enjoying revisiting some shows that I'd forgotten about, and maybe every other show there's at least one gem performance that makes me go, "I can't toss that show. what if there's a gem in there I'm tossing?" Still, I toss it if my protocol mentioned above and memory don't suggest something about that show. My collection never was, and now it never will, be complete. I think I'm coming to grips with that in great part because completeness was not a high priority for me. It sounds like you're grieving because you had some sense of near completeness. Thank you for shows you've contributed to me when I asked. I still have yours and rc's. My children don't want the collection. My wife doesn't want it, so I tell myself I'm doing the mature, personal responsibility thing by taking care of it myself. Sigh.

phew! I knew you loved '84 but I couldn't believe you would gut the NET--and you didn't!! Seriously, can you think of any artist in any field whose been as productive as Dylan has been from age 47 to 77? Picasso perhaps. Now granted only recently have artists been able to live that long. He has reminded a lot of people of Keats, of course, in their twenties. So we might start there in comparisons, but Bob's produced so much more than Keats of greater value than Keats. Frank Sinatra had a great long career, a brilliant youth and stately later years. Still. Whitman and Melville didn't have the youth Bob had, but they produced some great later stuff. I should ask Ricks sometime what he thinks. Maybe I'll goad him into offering up some gems.

its good to see you letting go and getting ready for a downsize but be careful i cleared out all my 1988- 2009 i had backed up to cd;s .I hung onto them for 4 yrs after i moved house .Then after advertising the to local Dylan fans with free delivery included they had to go ,I went from a 3 bedroom house with a 4th bedroom cnverted out of my attic solely for my 3 PC's with a total of 14 hard drives where i had everything backed up.This attic room was 26ft x 22ft how i miss that as i'm now confined to a small bedroom 12.5 x 10 ft all i have left is 1 pc.worse was to come as about4 months ago i lost one of my favourite years (2000)when a hd drive died on me of which mainly due to Maggi Malone i have recovered about half of those shows.thats just the Dylan side of downsizing i also lost my large garden ,greenhouses where all my summer bedding plants were grown etc .There are plus sides to moving but i will end here.Good Luck Jim and enjoy you retirement when it arrives.Trev

I'm trying to downsize at home in preparation for moving to something smaller in the next couple years, so I'm throwing away thousands of dylan shows. It HURTS!! I'm keeping important early stuff upto 1980; and then...AVERT YOUR EYES NOW, TREV!! YOU'VE BEEN WARNED...and then tossing everything til summer 88. At that point, I pick up fav shows and performances I've seen, representative and several excellent shows from each year, a great many soomlos recordings to the almost total exclusion of many gifted bootleggers from whom I've benefitted over the years. I don't know how I'm going to live without M&A, fine wine, audiowhore, Bach, and many others who've made my ears so happy for so long. I also keep shows tbc and rc have been kind enough to provide me, and many shows from Hamburg, Great Britain, and their frigid northern neighbors, including all the crystal cats I have left. I have hundreds or a thousand post-2008 shows and videos on hard drives, but all this earlier stuff was on CDs and in sleeves and cases. I had no idea how much I had. I had a guess in my head of about 3000 shows, but after I sorted thru the encased CDs, I discovered spindles and spindles of shows I had yet to organize by date. My wife had stacked dozens of spindles into boxes, and I'd lost sight of them until now. Just when I thought I had them all, more would come pouring out of boxes. I must have had close to 5000 recordings on plastic. I think I scared myself. I knew I could be a bit obsessive, but this was hoarding. Thank goodness I started this project while I'm still in good health. Makes me want to clean out the rest of my junk. I'm recycling all the plastic and I'll be repurposing all the books, clothing, and tools I no longer use. Feels pretty good, but there's still a long way to go. Books, did I mention books? I've been reading two or three books a week since 1983. Fortunately, I haven't needed to buy all of them because I'm an adept user of libraries. Anyone have any similar experience unloading or replacing dylan shows?

May 2018 be a bit more peaceful and less xenophobic than 2017. Happy New Year, all!
