If each of the songs is about as long as the previous 2 Sinatra releases, I wonder why they don't release it on 2 discs rather than 3 discs of 40 minutes of music. We'll see since each disc has a theme and an individual title--Til The Sun Goes Down, Devil Dolls and Comin’ Home Late.

anyhow, I guess we'll have similar shows to the last couple of years (and probably a rehash of oldchella at the firefly festival).

I guess the heated discussion on this topic indicates exactly how excited Dylan fans are by another 3 albums of oldies...

Well, there was just as much discussion for 1966 live recordings, to be fair. I guess people have a variety of reactions to Triplicate, like we always have. I am a bit indifferent, but will buy the album. Maybe a bit dissapointed, too, I'll stick along , however.

I had a hunch about the time of the release of The Cutting Edge that Dylan is somehow trying to deconstruct his body of work. Like giving a different perspective, like knowing all of this will someday be put into light, I don't know. But comparing Blonde on Blonde to all TCE takes...it takes off some of the magic for me.

This just isn't my type of music. I haven't listened to more than a half dozen song from this "Standards Era."

Im excited by anything Bob releases I think some of this material is beautiful, I think "I could have told you" is exquisite. Yes I get it we would preferably hear his own material but given his age anything we get is bonus.

There's been many eras of Bob is this really anymore controversial than coming out as a born again christian? Releasing Self Portrait or Nashville Skyline? or plugging in and going electric.

In time all those eras became more accepted by fans... I think this will happen here too.

I bought Triplicate on 3/31, along with Fallen Angels on vinyl - it's terrific, much better than CD. Still haven't listened to all of Triplicate... Many years ahead deciding and balancing this collection.

A remark about singing on this latest album - I think it's not that strong, too much wailing, even incomprehensible murmuring if you turn the volume down. But it grips me in a funny way, like walking thru a giant musical hall of echoes.

My favorite track now is Once Upon A Time.

I am reading into the release of so much material on Triplicate... yes, a dangerous thing to do... as a clearing of the decks. Dylan saying ok, here is everything worth releasing I have left from this period of exploration. He may move on to 1890s jazz/minstrel or Stephen Foster... but hopefully he has accumulated a fair amount of his own writing that he wants to get out.

Few more observations - maybe Bob really wanted to clear the decks, or he wanted to create a grand statement. Either way, I can't tell, the music and delivery is sort of impenetrable, also the titles of each disc - do they tell a story or a theme or could they be swapped freely?

Greil Marcus wrote an interesting review in Village Voice (it was on ER front page yesterday) - well, he says Triplicate is like a book of love in all its guises, that it can be read lightly and the again more deeply involved and that it doesn't need to be finished and that the songs don't represent so much remembrance of things past but a picture of a world that is impossible to find nowadays and any day, so to speak.

I also noticed, despite relatively short running time, that each 'album' drags a bit for me. The same I experienced with Shadows and I don't think it's beacuse the songs 'sound the same' or deal with similar themes. I like to think these albums are congested and heavy distillation of Bob Dylan's worldview at this point, like the way he moves and reacts, etc...

All in all, a lot of bruised jewels to be found on Triplicate, hopefully the next album will be original songs. Although, I imagine a song like Trade Winds bears more Bob than a song like Tin Angel.

that is interesting... maybe Bob's grand statement is the subtlety and almost mundane nature of things
