I watched it “live” and didn’t really enjoy it.

• Too much smoke
• Too much arty camera work
• Too much back of people’s heads
• Obviously not live
• Obviously mimed in places

It came across as a collection of promo videos for different songs recorded on the same set. The cuts between different songs was very abrupt.

I listened to it later and it came across much better. The vocals are excellent in my opinion and the arrangements are very different and will take a while to become familiar with. The instrument playing, I’m not a musician, sounds excellent but has the feeling of several takes in a recording studio.

Overall it wasn’t, in my opinion, a success as a visual event.

I wonder if it will be released officially on CD. Maybe with different takes.

I mean, the theory is that thanks to Covid (haha sarcasm) his voice got rested for 18 months or whatever.

He sure sounded good on every song.

Okay. Goodnight.

( I may start a thread for people to say a feeling about the show. The few that may be here haha.)

Guess what? I will. Go to the site I'm gonna make up now!

I too hope it's released on CD although I was disappointed that his voice sounded much more ragged than the last time I heard him live (actually live) about three years ago.

How interesting! Everyone has a different take on this obviously because I was struck by how good and smooth his voice was! You must have been to a great show!

Things I thought were particularly groovy...

No chorus and a different melody for the second half of the verses in Forever Young - I've always dislike the chorus so this was just what I wanted! And that new verse melody is lovely.

Wicked Messenger arrangement. Loved it. Very cool and carefully planned, even if the close-up guitar wasn't plugged in!

What Was It You Wanted? - now sounds as ominous as Man In The Long Black Coat. It seemed a suitably spooky arrangement for an Oh Mercy song. Great sing from Bob too...

Tombstone Blues slow. Wonderful! I notice the band in the video were playing a lot more than on the recording. I'm guessing they got stripped out. Same on Baby Blue. Unlike the touring band perhaps they're not ready to be so sparse... This and Baby Blue reminded me of the Mother Of Muses arrangement on the latest album.

Pledging my Time - what an odd choice of song. And great to hear a sleazy low-down blues. Some people are swearing that was Charlie playing lead but he didn't get a credit...

To Be Alone With You - only the title line of the lyric remained. Effectively a whole new song.

I'll Be Your Baby - cool new groove and who couldn't enjoy the long slowed-down ending?

Queen Jane - I love this slow, reminded me of '95 and the "Soul" bootleg, even the voice. Fantastic.

What was that weird dulceola-like instrument?

OK. I really thought the music was brilliant. The video? Simply weird. The two bar setting to me looked like a Mississippi Juke Joint and a Mexican dive bar. Is having an all-white band playing in such situations some sort of a political statement? Or was it just cool-looking?

(The big question we kept asking is whether the smoking section was separated from Bob and the band? From the lighting it looked not but holy crap! I used to play in a lot of smokey bars but - goddamn! - these ones looked like a health hazard...)

AND... was it really shot in France? Is that why the touring band weren't there? Does Bob avez, as Bill Wyman would put it "une residence dans La South de France"?

i didn't buy it, but i have seen 4 (5 if you include the credit/watchtower? instrumental). if a fall 21 tour happens with that set and add in a handful of rough and rowdy ways songs, i'd be all for it.
